Patrika.com, a leading digital news platform, faced challenges in delivering a seamless and engaging content consumption experience. The platform presented a high volume of news content, but lacked a clear information hierarchy, making it difficult for users to quickly find relevant stories. Navigation across categories was inconsistent, and the layout felt cluttered, leading to cognitive overload and reduced readability. Users often struggled to scan headlines, switch between sections, or stay engaged with longer articles. Additionally, the absence of structured content presentation and engaging visual elements resulted in higher bounce rates and lower user retention. These issues impacted the overall user experience, limiting content discoverability, engagement, and the platform’s ability to retain readers.

To address these challenges, I redesigned the platform using a user-centered approach focused on improving clarity, readability, and engagement. I restructured the information architecture to create a logical and intuitive content flow, making it easier for users to navigate across categories and discover relevant news. The homepage and category pages were redesigned with a strong visual hierarchy, using structured layouts, clear typography, and content cards to enhance scannability. I improved article pages by focusing on readability, spacing, and distraction-free layouts, ensuring a smooth reading experience. To boost engagement, I introduced features such as trending news sections, related articles, and better content grouping. A consistent design system was implemented to maintain uniformity across the platform, and responsive design ensured a seamless experience across mobile and desktop devices. Through iterative design and feedback, the final solution improved content discoverability, reduced cognitive load, and created a more engaging and user-friendly news experience.

When I first explored Patrika.com, it felt like everything was competing for attention at the same time. There was no shortage of content—but that was exactly the problem. Users were being presented with too much information without a clear path, making it hard to focus on what really mattered.

During research, I noticed that users didn’t read—they scanned. But the platform wasn’t designed for scanning. Headlines blended into each other, categories weren’t clearly separated, and important stories didn’t stand out. One user mentioned that they often left the site because it felt “too crowded” and difficult to navigate.

That insight changed the direction of my approach. The problem wasn’t content—it was clarity.

I started by simplifying the structure. I reorganized the homepage to create a clear visual hierarchy, ensuring that top stories, trending news, and categories were distinctly separated. Instead of overwhelming users, the design began guiding them.

Next, I focused on readability. I redesigned article pages to be clean and distraction-free, with better spacing, typography, and flow. The goal was to make reading feel effortless, especially for users consuming news on mobile devices.

To improve engagement, I introduced features like related articles and trending sections, helping users naturally continue their journey without feeling lost. A consistent design system tied everything together, making the experience feel cohesive and predictable.

After iterations and feedback, the transformation was clear. Users could scan content easily, find relevant news faster, and stay engaged longer. What was once a cluttered and overwhelming platform became a clean, structured, and engaging news experience that truly supported how people consume content today.
